<![CDATA[English engraver and printer who invented a process (patented 1835) of colour printing that made reproductions of paintings available on a mass scale. He was the son of John Baxter (1781–1858), printer and publisher at Lewes, who issued the popular illustrated “Baxter” Bible. George Baxter went to London in 1827. There he supplied colour illustrations to the publisher George Mudie and produced prints for the London Missionary Society. Although he sold his work to several highborn clients and was even summoned to visit Queen Victoria, he had little business sense and did not profit greatly from his invention, partly because he encountered competition from cheap coloured lithographs. Baxter used carefully etched plates, a handpress, a system of register points, and the finest colours, oils, and paper. He mixed the colours himself but left no record of their composition. I possess two engravings. Each are priced at $100. If you purchase both, I am willing to sell them both for $175.]]>

The figures are actually small handmade dolls with crocheted arms and legs and stuffed heads with yarn hair and embroidered features, 3 dimensional. The second photo is a close-up of one of the scenes so you can get a sense of how the figures stand away from the background. There is an olive green crocheted edge all around the hanging., and the back is covered with wheat colored cotton. I bought this as a way of supporting a program that was helping these women sell their crafts and earn money to care for their families. Now I'm downsizing and would like someone else to enjoy it. $10.]]>

The candle sticks were made by craftsman in another similar program. 1. Emboridered doves and flowers in 10" wooden embroidery hoops. There are five of these, similar but all different. $2 each. 2. Shiny black glazed candle sticks, in a heart shape. They are about 4 1/2" side to side and top to bottom. There are two, $2 each. 3. Doll in native dress, stitched with a lot of detail ; the face is painted and embroidered; her wardrobe includes earrings, crocheted collar on her blouse, decorated bloomers, ruffled petticoat and an elaborately decorated shirt. $10 4. Pilliow with a white center with a quilted dove with an embroidered garland of flowers surrounding it. Ther is a Green patchwork quilted border. About 15 x 15". $5]]>

This winter they need our help more than ever!! Black Capped Chickadees are our favorite birds to watch, they do such silly things, even hanging upside down! This Chickadee is 4.5" tall about 5" wide on an old cedar post. It is made of northern white pine.It is hand painted, hand stained and then 3 coats of acrylic lacquer to give it a fine soft feel. It has quality crystal eyes which give it a nice alive look. We always put them on old cedar posts that are sanded and lacquered. Each old recycled post has its own shape and texture.
