The SCA teams will work in partnership with National Park Service, US Fish & Wildlife Service and the US Forest Service. There are currently six Native Plant Project Leader opportunities in the following areas:

• Superior National Forest (boundary waters near Ely, MN)

• Superior National Forest (boundary waters near Grand Marais, MN)
<br>
• C & O Canal National Historical Park (near Hancock, MD)
<br>
• C & O Canal National Historical Park (near Oldtown, MD)
<br>
• Mammoth Cave National Park (Kentucky)
<br>
• SE Exotic Plant Management Team (North Carolina)

Primary Responsibilities:
<br>
Teams will be working to control invasive species and restore native habitat. Project Leaders typically arrive on site 5 weeks in advance to collaborate with agency partners and SCA staff to: develop a detailed service work plan; manage project implementation; select, train and supervise team members. Additional duties include: ensure quality assurance standards are met; manage project outcomes; and document and report the details of the team’s service, conservation experience and education.

Period of Employment: April 6, 2010 – Sept/Oct 2010 (end date dependent on project)

Qualifications:
<br>
<br>
21 years of age or older
<br>
1-2 years previous field work experience in a supervisory capacity
<br>
2-4 years prior experience in supervising young adults in an outdoor, setting.
<br>
Wilderness First Aid/CPR certification.
<br>
Have working knowledge of safely operating power and hand-tools.
<br>
Able to carry heavy loads up to 50 pounds and be able to work in outdoor environment exposed to the elements including camping and hiking for extended periods of time.
<br>
Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards required
<br>
Ability to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards
<br>
Coursework or field experience in botany, ecology, horticulture, natural resource management or environmental science
<br>
GPS/GIS familiarity
<br>

Starting salary: $545 per week paid bi-weekly. With some seasonal benefits
