<![CDATA[The Youth Mediation Services (YMS) contractor (the Contractor) is responsible for supporting the programs of YMS involving youth (ages 5-17) at the Dispute Settlement Center (the Center). This is a six (6) month, part-time position (30 hours per week) that reports to the Executive Director. The Contractor will: <br> <br> I. Support Youth Services <br> All youth services include the following responsibilities: <br> * Ensure that quality services are delivered throughout the Youth Mediation programs by working in conjunction with other members of the staff and contractors of the DSC. <br> * Maintain case management, correct documentation, and confidentiality on appropriate clients. <br> <br> A. Conflict Resolution Education <br> The Conflict Resolution Education (CRE) Team Teacher is responsible for team planning and teaching one CRE class for high school students at Balfour Education Center (Balfour) in Henderson County. Class meets from 9:40 – 11:15 each school day. Additional planning time and communication time with team teacher, school personnel, students, parents, etc. involves an average of 15 hours per school year week. <br> B. Family Coaching <br> Family Coaching is a process that provides parents and youth the opportunity to learn positive and effective ways to set family goals and how to negotiate with each other to meet the needs in the family. The coaching staff presents the parents and youth with skills in effective communication, conflict resolution, anger management, and improving overall family dynamics. Program staff coaches the family on ways to make better choices as a family. Families work with the program for anywhere from three to six sessions, each one hour, over the course of two to three months, or as needed. Hours vary by week and by caseload (approximately five hours a week). Preparation time, coaching session and session debrief is estimated at one to one and half hours per session per family. Coaching sessions will typically be held in the late afternoon/early evening (or scheduled at a time that works well for the clients being served). <br> C. Youth and Truancy Mediation <br> * Interview and screen potential clients for mediation upon referral from juvenile court, school, community, law enforcement/school resource officers (SROs), community agencies by walk-in, telephone basis, and on an as-needed basis. <br> • Schedule mediations for youth and truancy. <br> • Mediate cases referred to the youth program on an as-needed basis. <br> • Conduct follow-up for mediation participants on an as-needed basis. <br> <br> II. Collaborate with other DSC services and Center needs: <br> • Cooperate and collaborate with all DSC program staff to provide appropriate and quality service. <br> • Support the Executive Director in grant writing efforts, including presentations of statistical data and program ideas. <br> <br> Qualifications of the Contractor include: <br> • A bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in Mediation, Conflict Resolution, Communications, Education, Social Work, Human Services, Counseling, etc. <br> • Additional requirements: <br> • Excellent written and oral communication skills <br> • A mature attitude towards the work. <br> • High motivation, high energy, initiative, and a passion for working with at- risk youth <br> • Experience with working with at-risk teens and families <br> • Experience in case management <br> • Experience in mediation is greatly preferred. <br> • High school teaching experience is greatly preferred. <br> • Bilingual is a plus. <br> • Successful results from background checks required by the state. <br> ]]>
